Peter MacGill, First Receipient of the Harold Jones Distinguished Alumni Award
Peter MacGill, Director of Pace/MacGill Gallery, New York began working in the photo gallery world when he was a college intern at LIGHT Gallery, working with Harold Jones in 1973. He was among the very first to members of the Graduate Photography Program at the UA. He received his MFA in May 1977.
Pace/MacGill Gallery is one of the premier photography galleries in the world. Pace/MacGill Gallery represents the Estate of Harry Callahan, and the work of Robert Frank, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Chuck Close, Robert Rauschenberg, Emmet Gowin, Richard Misrach, Garry Winogrand, and others. Peter negotiated the sales of the Thomas Walther Collection to the Museum of Modern Art, in 2001, and the Manfred Heiting Collection to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in 2002.
To Be Honored in September, 2006
Peter MacGill is the first recipient of the Harold Jones Distinguished Alumni Award and will be in Tucson to accept the award, present a public lecture, and talk with students in September 22, 2006.
We encouraged alumni of the Photography Program to come to Tucson in September to see and celebrate photo alumni collegues. It will be a great opportunity to see old friends and see how the campus and Tucson have changed since you were last here.
